The Typical Duration of IOP

IOP typically meets three times a week for three hours each day. Additionally, most IOPs will have both group sessions and individual sessions on a weekly basis. A common approach is to require 2 group sessions and one individual or family session per week. Typical overall duration for an IOP can range from 8 to 12 weeks, though some participants will attend longer term, up-to a year. While programs may vary in overall duration of the program, the key is to meet intensively during the course of a given week.

Duration of treatment. IOPs usually last about 90 days, but this can also vary from 8 to 12 weeks. Costs can also change depending on the frequency of meetings and sessions held per week. Some IOP meet 3 times each week, while other meet up to 5 or 6 evenings. Also, the duration of treatment sessions is different, and may last anywhere from 30 minutes or an hour, to 90 minutes, even up to 2 or 4 hours a day.
